About this audiobook

Eliza R. Snow's Biography and Family Record of Lorenzo Snow presents both a personal life narrative and an institutional record of a major nineteenth-century Latter-day Saint leader. Combining biographical recollection, genealogical documentation, testimonies, letters, and accounts of missionary and ecclesiastical labor, the volume traces Snow's conversion, apostolic service, emigration, family relationships, and participation in the developing Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Its style is commemorative and documentary rather than novelistic: devotional interpretation stands alongside names, dates, anecdotes, and firsthand memories. In this respect, the book belongs to the Victorian tradition of religious biography while also preserving the collective memory and historical vocabulary of early Mormonism. Snow writes with unusual authority and intimacy. She was Lorenzo Snow's sister, a prominent Latter-day Saint poet and hymn writer, and an influential women's leader within the Church. Her access to family history and her own involvement in the movement shaped a narrative designed not merely to inform, but to edify, authenticate faith, and honor a life understood as providentially significant. The work therefore reveals as much about nineteenth-century Mormon ideals of kinship, sacrifice, revelation, and leadership as it does about its subject. This book will reward readers interested in Mormon history, religious biography, family memory, and the cultural formation of American restorationist movements. Scholars will value its evidentiary texture and insider perspective, while general readers will find an engaging portrait of devotion tested through migration, institutional change, and sustained public service. It is especially useful when read critically, as both biography and historical artifact.
