"Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes" is a travel memoir by Robert Louis Stevenson. The book narrates Stevenson's 12-day, 120-mile solo hiking journey through the sparsely populated and impoverished areas of Cevennes mountains in south-central France in 1878. He takes a donkey named Modestine as his lone companion throughout his journey. Stevenson describes picturesque landscapes, encounters with locals, his adventures and struggles with his stubborn donkey, and the exploration of Protestant history. The book is adorned with illustrations by Walter Crane.
