The Confederacy is losing Svarog. There are still people waiting to leave.
Captain Daymund Cain and the Rebel Ascendant are sent into a campaign where evacuation routes are closing one by one. Their ship can slip through defenses that would block larger vessels, disrupt the Federation's advance, and buy another window for departures. But each mission demands more from a crew already carrying the losses of first contact.
The war reaches well beyond Svarog. Ships diverted to help with its evacuation leave other worlds less defended, and every captain answering the call brings people who are needed somewhere else.
Kaid Sidorov has tried to leave that life behind. He is still learning to live with what happened to him, and with the object Elesylis left in his keeping. As his former crew prepares to return to the fighting, the questions surrounding her legacy become harder to keep private.
The line will close. The only question is what can be carried through it.
