The Wacker of Okanbia
A dementia-ridden gangster king in 1300s West Africa orders wacks he forgets, loves a funeral better than a feast, and dies mid-rant — leaving a kingdom of very much alive 'dead' enemies and a daughter who already has a plan.By Nnamdi Christian OleforoLength9h 39m
About this audiobook
In 1300s Okanbia, the demented King Kofi rules like a 1970s mob boss, ordering assassinations he instantly forgets. His consigliere Jabari secretly saves the targets, moving them to a hidden bush village that now outnumbers the living. Sefu hides this via a fake ledger. Meanwhile, Princess Ama loves Kojo, a low-class craftsman. To avoid the Queen's forced suitor games, Ama's loyal maids sabotage every visiting prince. Nearby, the ignored seer Nuru warns of foreign invasion. Chaos strikes in one day: Kofi dies mid-sentence, Jabari's village is exposed, the angry 'dead' return, and invaders arrive at the gates. Ama and Kojo seize the empty throne, unite the factions, and defeat the threat. Peace follows. Ama rules as Queen with King Consort Kojo. Jabari advises, Nuru becomes official Seer, and the hidden village merges into a booming capital. The fake ledger is safely retired, launching a new golden age of art, music, and theatre built on the memory of the gangster king who lost control.
