The Strange Case of Cavendish (Annotated)
Enriched Edition. A Western Murder MysteryBy Randall Parrish

About this audiobook
The Strange Case of Cavendish is a briskly plotted mystery-adventure in which an apparently inexplicable crime surrounding Cavendish opens into a wider network of concealment, pursuit, false appearances, and moral testing. Parrish writes in the idiom of early twentieth-century popular fiction: vigorous dialogue, swiftly moving scenes, and a narrative structure built on suspense rather than psychological introspection. The novel stands at the intersection of detective fiction, romance, and frontier adventure, reflecting a period when American genre writing freely mingled urban intrigue with the energies of the West. Randall Parrish, an Illinois-born journalist, lawyer, and prolific novelist, brought to his fiction both a reporter's appetite for incident and a historical novelist's fascination with American character under pressure. Best known for romances and adventure tales set against frontier or historical backgrounds, he repeatedly explored courage, loyalty, deception, and social identity. The Strange Case of Cavendish reflects these interests while adapting them to the puzzle-driven conventions of mystery fiction. Readers who enjoy classic adventure mysteries will find this novel rewarding for its momentum, atmosphere, and craftsmanship. It is especially recommended to those interested in American popular literature before the hard-boiled era, when suspense, romance, and moral drama still moved together with unapologetic narrative vigor.
