THE POETRY of H. P. Lovecraft (Annotated)
Enriched Edition. Cosmic horror and American gothic verse from New England's shadows: elder gods, weird dreams, supernatural dreadBy H. P. Lovecraft
Length3h 34m
About this audiobook
The Poetry of H. P. Lovecraft gathers the verse of a writer more often remembered for cosmic horror, revealing the formal, antiquarian, and philosophical foundations beneath his fiction. These poems range from Augustan satire and Georgian pastoral to dream-visions, macabre lyrics, and sonnets of cosmic dread. Their diction is deliberately archaic, their meters disciplined, and their imaginative world steeped in Poe, Dunsany, Milton, and the eighteenth-century classicists. Read together, they illuminate Lovecraft's literary context: a modern writer resisting modernity through inherited forms while transforming them into vehicles for alienation, nightmare, and metaphysical terror. H. P. Lovecraft (1890–1937), born in Providence, Rhode Island, was an autodidact whose intense reading, isolation, antiquarian tastes, and fascination with astronomy shaped nearly all his work. His poetry reflects the same preoccupations that animate his tales: the fragility of human knowledge, the allure of the past, and the terrifying vastness of the cosmos. This volume is recommended for readers who wish to understand Lovecraft beyond the Cthulhu Mythos. It is especially valuable for students of weird literature, poetic traditionalism, and the evolution of twentieth-century horror.
