Manly Wade Wellman (1903–1986) was an American writer best known for his fantasy and horror stories, but he wrote in a wide variety of genres including science fiction, historical fiction, detective fiction, Western fiction, juvenile fiction, and nonfiction. Born in Angola, he graduated from Wichita Municipal University (now Wichita State University) in Kansas and received a bachelor of laws degree from Columbia University.
