The plot sweeps toward tension when Ichabod attends a lively harvest party at the Van Tassel home. Music, dancing, and feasting fill the night, but it is the chilling ghost stories told afterward—especially Brom's vivid retelling of the Horseman legend—that unsettle the schoolmaster. Riding home alone through the dark, whispering woods, Ichabod's mind becomes a storm of fear and anticipation. Each twist of the road feels like an invitation for the supernatural to emerge.
