The Invasion From Above (Annotated)
Enriched Edition. Two Alien Invasion Novels: Pursuit &VictoryBy Lester del Rey
Length4h 52m
About this audiobook
The Invasion From Above is a compact, energetic science-fiction adventure built around one of the genre's classic premises: the sudden intrusion of an alien power into ordinary human affairs. Del Rey treats invasion not merely as spectacle but as a test of intelligence, courage, and social organization. Its prose is clear, swift, and practical, reflecting the mid-twentieth-century tradition of American pulp and juvenile science fiction, where scientific curiosity and moral resolve shape the action. Lester del Rey was among the central figures in the formation of modern popular science fiction: a writer, editor, critic, and later a major force in bringing the genre to wider readership. His fiction often reveals a deep commitment to rational problem-solving, technological imagination, and the education of young readers in the habits of scientific thought. The tensions of the atomic age and Cold War undoubtedly inform the book's concern with vulnerability, preparedness, and human cooperation under pressure. Readers who enjoy classic science fiction will find this novel an engaging example of the form at its most direct and purposeful. It is especially recommended for those interested in the evolution of alien-invasion narratives, early genre adventure, and del Rey's distinctive blend of accessibility, suspense, and intellectual seriousness.
