The Crisis of Political Legitimacy
Western Liberal and Islamic Political Thought in an Age of Convergent CrisisBy Dr Naim Tahir Baig
Length14h 2m
About this audiobook
The Crisis of Political Legitimacy by Dr. Naim Tahir Baig argues Western liberal and Islamic traditions share a legitimacy crisis, not a clash of civilizations. Both face the “grounding problem”: inability to base sovereignty beyond itself. Liberal democracy relies on popular will but risks circularity; Islamic thought on divine sovereignty without clear interpretive theory for plural states. Evidence: democratic backsliding in the West, theocratic collapse in Iran. Neither is monolithic; each holds resources for the other—Islamic shura and public interest for post-liberal legitimacy; Western natural law for Islamic reform. A post-Orientalism comparative theory mapping paths to reconstruction.
