The Cellular Cosmogony (Annotated)
Enriched Edition. Concave Earth Cosmology, Religious Science, and Utopian Vision in a Cellular UniverseBy Cyrus Reed Teed, Koresh
Length6h 46m
About this audiobook
The Cellular Cosmogony is a striking synthesis of speculative astronomy, religious metaphysics, and late nineteenth-century reformist imagination. Framed as a comprehensive challenge to conventional cosmology, it advances the famous Koreshan claim that humanity inhabits the inner surface of a concave earth. Its prose moves between mathematical demonstration, prophetic assertion, scientific polemic, and utopian vision, making the work significant not merely as eccentric cosmology but as a document of alternative knowledge-making at the margins of modern science. Cyrus Reed Teed, writing as Koresh, was the founder of the Koreshan Unity, a communal religious movement that blended millenarian Christianity, alchemy, social reform, and anti-establishment science. The volume reflects the intellectual ferment of its era, when spiritualism, new religious movements, and popular scientific controversy often overlapped. Teed's arguments reveal how cosmological speculation could become a framework for social organization, spiritual authority, and communal identity. Readers interested in the history of science, American religious innovation, and utopian movements will find this book a valuable primary text. It offers a rare opportunity to examine how alternative cosmologies construct coherence, authority, and meaning. As a historical artifact, it invites reflection on belief, evidence, and the persistent dialogue between science, faith, and imagination.
