Ven has spent his life on the outside skin of the Canyon, a sealed city where the wealthy live hidden within and the poor survive on its dangerous surface. Alone after his brother’s death, Ven chooses to enter the city, not for comfort or safety, but to find Cort, the young man he once loved through glass. Inside, he finds clean rooms, soft beds, endless food, and the ever-helpful Canyon Lady, a calm synthetic guide who knows too much and promises only care. But the deeper Ven goes, the more he learns that safety has rules, intimacy requires permission, and love can be treated as a sickness. A melancholy science-fiction story of longing, control, class, and the terrible difference between being protected and being free.
