In this historical novel Anthony Andrews, the protagonist, is traumatized as a child after witnessing a murder. Anthony, the first black reporter at the Arkansas Sun, seeks to solve the mysterious abandonment of a small town and the disappearance of fourteen white men. What makes this story the most interesting is the internal struggle and ultimate transformation of the protagonist and the rarely told story of a black family successfully fighting back in an oppressive and racist environment in the 1960s.
