Oahspe: A New Bible (Annotated)
Enriched Edition. A Kosmon Bible in the Words of Jehovih and his Angel EmbassadorsBy John Ballou Newbrough

About this audiobook
Oahspe: A New Bible is an ambitious work of nineteenth-century visionary scripture, presenting a vast cosmology of heavens, earth histories, angelic hierarchies, and moral laws under the name of Jehovih. Written in an elevated, pseudo-biblical idiom, it blends prophetic proclamation, mythic genealogy, diagrammatic cosmography, and reformist ethics. Its literary context lies at the intersection of American Spiritualism, apocalyptic biblical revision, and utopian religious experimentation after the Civil War. John Ballou Newbrough (1828–1891), an American dentist and inventor, claimed to have received the text through automatic writing, aided by spiritual intelligences. His professional interest in technology, his reform-minded temperament, and his immersion in Spiritualist circles all shaped the book's unusual fusion of mechanical modernity and ancient revelation. Oahspe reflects both Newbrough's era's fascination with unseen forces and its desire for a universal religion beyond sectarian Christianity. Readers interested in alternative scriptures, esoteric traditions, or the religious imagination of nineteenth-century America will find Oahspe indispensable. Though challenging in scale and eccentric in form, it rewards patient reading as a remarkable artifact of visionary authorship and spiritual experimentation.
