As Henry II, he built a vast Angevin realm stretching from England to southwestern France, strengthened royal government, and confronted the limits of his own authority. His conflict with Thomas Becket, the shocking murder inside Canterbury Cathedral, and the rebellions of his sons revealed the human cost of ambition, family rivalry, and the struggle for control.
