A failed writer on the verge of suicide calls his estranged ex-love Lila, who drives 47 minutes to save him. She reads his manuscript about a man trapped in a white field without a final chapter. He adds two words. Turn around and begins rewriting his life. They restore their relationship, open a bookstore called The Far Shore, and build a community around stories of survival. Years later, after Lila's peaceful death, Elias continues the residency for young writers, learning that the "trying" itself is the only ending that matters.
