CHAPTER 1
By the end of the week, Lauren accepted that the world would not stop staring. Clients wanted the FlameMatch couple in a soft focus ad. The marketing team loved the free publicity. Her inbox housed strange messages from people offering to name their children after her, promises she did not solicit. Her mother texted a selfie with a caption Who is this handsome man and please tell me he has a job. Lauren did not respond for three hours.
Daniel handled it with the casual charm of a man who could politely decline a grenade. He made gags about expense reports and posted coy replies on the company Instagram that involved far too many pizza emojis. At night she found herself replaying moments in her head and deciding that he had not been as terrifying that one time he had told her to pivot. He had been human. Oddly, he had been funny.
