Dagón es un relato escrito en julio de 1917 y publicado por primera vez en noviembre de 1919 en la revista The Vagrant, y más adelante reimpreso en Weird Tales. El cuento comienza con un narrador-protagonista anónimo que manifiesta sentirse perseguido y observado, lo cual lo lleva a relatar su encuentro con Dagón, un dios marino que más adelante se convertirá en su perseguidor. Esta criatura es una deidad de la mitología mesopotámica y de las escrituras bíblicas, incorporada posteriormente al universo lovecraftiano como parte de la raza de los Profundos: seres humanoides con características piscícolas que habitan en los mares del mundo.
Este relato es un ejemplo temprano de los Mitos de Cthulhu, etapa en la que Lovecraft establece gran parte de las características esenciales del horror cósmico. El narrador encuentra antiguos grabados que representan a la criatura como una figura venerada, con manos palmeadas, brazos escamosos y un tamaño colosal, comparable al de una ballena.
