Chains Beneath the Sun is a powerful historical story about survival, identity, and resilience during one of the darkest periods in human history. The novel follows Kofi, a twelve year old boy whose peaceful life in his village is shattered when slave raiders destroy his home and capture him along with many others. Forced on a brutal journey from the burning ruins of his village to a coastal slave fortress and onto a ship crossing the vast ocean, Kofi must face fear, loss, and uncertainty far beyond his years.
Along the way he forms fragile bonds with other captives such as Amari and the wise elder Badu, who remind him that even in chains a person’s spirit and identity cannot easily be taken. As the ship carries them farther from everything they have ever known, Kofi struggles to hold onto memories of home and the hope that his story is not yet finished.
