Inspired by the man Jesus heals in Mark 8:22–26, the story imagines the life behind the brief Gospel account—from childhood and family, to work, relationships, hardship, and spiritual questioning.
Born blind, Simon learns to understand the world through sound, touch, memory, movement, and the trees that become landmarks throughout his life. When he encounters Jesus at Bethsaida, his healing changes far more than his eyesight. As Simon learns to interpret a world he has never visually known, he begins reflecting more deeply on Christ’s teachings about blindness, fruit, roots, seeds, and trees.
At its heart, Book of Trees is a story about disability, human worth, grace, and the difference between having sight and truly understanding what is before us.
