During WWII, American pilot Jeff Wilson is shot down over Yugoslavia, where he falls for Eva, a resistance fighter battling both Nazis and communists. Forced to evacuate without her, Jeff returns years later to find her, only to be framed for an assassination attempt on the Yugoslav President. As he flees Interpol and local police, Eva is also on the move, acting as a surrogate mother to orphaned twins. Her journey leads her to a refugee camp after a heroic stand at a bridge.
In a twist of fate, an American diplomat realizes Jeff’s innocence and sends an assistant, Jim Jankowski, to free him. Meanwhile, Eva sees Jeff’s face in a newspaper and travels to Frankfurt. She finds Jankowski, only to discover Jeff is being kidnapped by assassins posing as guards. A high-stakes pursuit follows as Eva and Jankowski race to intercept the vehicle. The chaos culminates in a daring rescue, finally reuniting the lovers amidst the scars of a war-torn Europe.
